& Sustainability
- TCI Sanmar is in full compliance with all applicable Egyptian laws and regulations regarding environment protection and continues to adopt and implement extra protection measures to minimise and eliminate any potential effects to the environment.
- We implement and maintain the environment management system according to the ISO 14001:2015 standards in all operations and activities.
- The company implements and maintains the occupational safety and health management system according to the ISO 45001:2018.
- We continuously update our technology and as a result are able to maintain the most effective utilization of energy and natural resources which has a direct impact on limiting the negative effect on the environment by saving energy and natural resources.
- We are the first company in Egypt to use Sulfate Removal System (SRS), which reduces the Sulfate ions from brine and recover 650 M3/day brine solution with 200 g/l of salt concentration which saves 1040k ton/year of natural resources raw material (Salt).
- We adopt developed techniques for recycling wastes, in accordance with the international standards.
- We have undertaken the statutorily required environmental impact assessment for all the facilities and establishments within the plant. All the assessment results were verified and approved by the Environment Affairs Agency.
- The company has implemented and is currently operating a surveillance system for monitoring the vapor/gas emissions, this system is completely automated and directly linked through internet connection to the Environment Affairs Agency, which has full access to all results and records of the system and closely monitoring the compliance of the plant with applicable standards for safe vapor emissions in association with official laboratories and laboratories of the governmental universities.
- We apply the best available techniques to ensure sustainability practices in product manufacture, and have successful case studies is Alco Ethylene Plant (AEP).
- TCI Sanmar case study (Green Ethylene) was approved and published in Yale-UNIDO technology compendium.
- TCI Sanmar Green Chemistry Case Study was reviewed by Yale University and United Nation Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and was published in the Yale University- UNIDO Technology Compendium.
- This Technology Compendium is a directory of green chemistry and engineering technologies from around the world.

- Operating in a water-stressed country in an industry that has high water consumption rates, makes it essential for us to carefully manage water. We, at TCI Sanmar, are part of the national efforts to secure access to quality water. Hence, all our production sites have implemented water-saving strategies, such as using closed-loop systems in extrusion operations that tremendously decrease water withdrawal.
- Moreover, TCI Sanmar has implemented a strategic wastewater management approach that recycles wastewater, recovers, and reuses it for industrial purposes accordingly, we source our water from bore wells and have implemented a project (with a total cost of USD 1,300,000) to dig a bore well inside our plant. The water from bore wells has proved to save an amount of 456,250 m³/year of water withdrawn from the water network grid.
- We established water recovery system to maximise the usage of treated water and also introduced Reverse Osmosis (RO) System and two Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems. ZLD plant which assures the reduction of wastewater via construction, commissioning, and operation of ZLD 2 plant with a capacity of 6,000 m3 in addition to the existing ZLD 1 with a capacity of 8,500 m3. Upgraded the ZLD treatment system capacity to increase the annual water recovery from 825,000 m3/year to 1,485,000 m3/year.
- Nevertheless, our Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) and Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) have been rehabilitated to improve the effluent quality and will help to decrease the quantity of effluents discharged. The total investment for both ETP and STP exceeds USD 1,200,000. Leading to saving around 330,000 m3/year of water to save water consumption and adhere to Egyptian sustainability goals on Egyptian Vision 2030.
- One of the critical determinants of sustainability is waste management. As a result, TCI Sanmar’s new strategy considers reducing waste in all areas of the plant, as we are positively committed to environmental issues. Waste can be hazardous to the environment and human health, so the prevention, reduction, and proper disposal ensure the maximum level of human and environmental protection. Waste heat recovery-TCI Sanmar has operated an incinerator for liquid and gaseous waste heat recovery by converting the waste into energy producing 16 tons of steam per hour.
- During the process of production of Ethylene, EDC and VCM a liquid and gaseous organic waste are produced, which are rich with hydrocarbons, containing high calorific value reach 4000 kcal/kg.
- This calorific value produced during the incineration of these waste is used to produce steam 16t/h which is used in production processes assuring by this TCI Sanmar sustainable development policy for energy conservation.
- Incinerator stack is equipped with online continuous emission monitoring system connected to Ministry of Environment.
